World Kindness Day – November 13

As we celebrate World Kindness Week, I invite you to pause and reflect with me.

This is the season when I begin my annual ritual of choosing a “Word of the Year” – an anchor word that grounds me in how I want to show up for myself, my family, my clients, and my community in the coming year.

Each year, I ask:

✨ What word will guide my intentions?

✨ What energy do I want to bring into every room, Zoom, and conversation?

I’ve found that when I invite others into this reflection, they often help me land on a word that resonates deeply with where I am and where I’m growing. This year, I’ve been having fun co-creating with Microsoft Copilot to brainstorm potential words, especially ones that start with a specific letter for those of us who love a little alliteration!

💡 The inspiration? A beautiful gift from my friend Mary Guan—a plaque that spells out “Wishing Out Loud” with affirming words for each letter. It reminded me of the power of name acronyms and how meaningful it is to be seen and celebrated in this way.

And speaking of name acronyms, I was so touched when Cynt Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, shared this acrostic for me when she presented me with her namesake, North Texas Disability Chamber Cynt Marshall Catalyst for Inclusion Award, on September 9, 2025.

💖 Words of affirmation are my love language. Once I discovered that, I decided to use it intentionally; not just to receive, but to give. It’s such a joy to offer others the gift of words that reflect how we see and experience them. It’s a simple act of kindness that can ripple far beyond the moment.

So here’s your call to action for World Kindness Week:

Who can you surprise with an acrostic affirmation this week?
