Guiding Leaders to Rewrite Their Story and Lead With Clarity

I want to share a short story from a recent coaching conversation. I hope it helps anyone who is leaving their former corporate or academic role or starting a new venture on their own as they build a portfolio career. You are not alone. You can grow your next chapter with confidence, clarity, and joy.

🌟 Meet Max

Max is a smart, caring leader who has spent over 15 years leading strategy, creativity and innovation. Max is now ready to build their own business. Max wants to help new hires and managers grow their skills at work. Max has big ideas, but Max also had some limiting beliefs that were holding Max back.

Here are a few of the beliefs Max brought into our session:

“I have to do everything myself.”

“I should charge less because I am new to business.”

“I need long videos and big programs before I can start.”

“My former colleagues will judge me on what I post on LinkedIn so I don’t use it”

“I am not sure how to use AI.”

Together, we worked through each one.

🌈 Coaching Questions That Helped their Break Through

These are the same questions you can ask yourself today:

  • What if you did not have to do everything alone?
  • What would change if you trusted your strengths more?
  • How would your business grow if you priced based on value, not fear?
  • What small step could you take this week to test your idea?
  • How can AI help you save time so you can focus on your gifts?

What story do you want people to remember when they hear your name or see you?

These questions helped Max to see that Max already had everything needed to begin.

💡 Helpful Tips We Explored Together

1. Build Support Systems Early

Max learned how a virtual assistant can help them stay organized. I shared how my own assistant helps me with planning, proposals, billing, and using AI tools. You do not have to carry your whole business on your back.

2. Use AI as Your Thinking Partner

AI tools like Copilot, ChatGPT, and Claude can help you brainstorm, research, and draft ideas.

Tip: Give AI a clear prompt like, “Write at a 6th grade level, no em dashes,  in a warm human voice that sounds like me”

AI is a tool, not a threat. Use it to shine.

3. Start With Simple Offers

Max wanted to build a big course and get 10 people to sign up.  I encouraged Max to start piloting with what would be easy to do this week.  Max decided that short 2‑minute videos, free bite-sized content, and a simple virtual Zoom workshop could be added easily.   You can grow as you go.

4. Price for Value, Not Fear

Business buyers pay for outcomes and impact. Not hours. Not worksheets.

Your experience matters. Your wisdom matters. Your story matters.

5. Grow Your LinkedIn Presence With Intention

I shared my own LinkedIn habits:

Add 100 new connections a month

Comment with kindness and curiosity on strategic posts

Send short congratulatory and thank you messages

Post once a week

Use your personal account for better reach and repost from the business page

LinkedIn is your digital billboard. Make it easy for people to find you.

6. Set Healthy Boundaries

You can be kind and still protect your time. Free monthly mentoring calls, short videos, and helpful posts can build your brand without burning you out.

🌟 Max’s Breakthrough

By the end of our session, Max said:

“I feel lighter. I can see my next step. I do not have to stay stuck.”

Max left with a plan to hone in on their ideal client, identifying a networking plan, launch their signature program, build their email list, and use AI and LinkedIn to grow their brand with confidence.
