Career Transitions: Your Story, Your Network, Your Momentum

When people go through a career change, one thing matters most. Your story. When you learn to tell it in a clear and confident way, people understand how to help you. They remember you. They think of you when they hear about new roles.

Here are a few simple tips I shared in my career transition support call. I hope they help you move forward with strength and hope.

1. Tell a Clear and Memorable Story

Start with who you are. Then share who you love to serve and what you enjoy doing. When you talk about what you love, your energy shows. People feel it.

When you add the job titles you want or the types of companies you hope for, people can picture your next step. That makes it easier for them to help.

Clients often tell me: Lisa helped me say my story in a way that finally made sense.” I didn’t realize how strong my background was until we rewrote it together.”

These moments help you see your own value again.

2. Activate Your LinkedIn

Updating your profile is only the first step. You need to make it active and warm.

Try these habits:

  • Send five friendly messages a day
  • Endorse skills for people you know
  • Write recommendations
  • Comment on posts strategically and reply to comments on yours
  • Share a mix of personal and professional posts

When your profile is active, people see you. They remember you. They reach out.

Clients often say: I started commenting the way you taught me and people noticed me right away.” “I didn’t know LinkedIn could feel human until you showed me how.”

3. Use Comments to Grow Your Network

Comments help you show your voice and your values. They also help the algorithm understand who you want to meet.

Add at least ten words when you comment. Share a small story or a gentle brag about how awesome they are to show you know them. Tag people who comment on your posts. Add photos when it fits and showcases their post to enhance visibility.

People are looking for joy. When you share something real and kind, they notice.

4. Use AI as a Thinking Partner

AI can help you rewrite your story in different ways. It can help you find skill gaps, draft comments, and create lists of target companies. It can also help you think about your strengths in new ways.

AI does not replace your talent. It helps you show it.

Clients often tell me: AI helped me see my experience in a whole new way.” “I finally understand how to use AI without losing my voice.

5. Keep Wishing Out Loud Specifically

When you say exactly what you want, people can help you. Keep Wishing Out Loud Specifically. It is not pushy. It is generous. It gives others a chance to support you.

Be sure to share your Wishing Out Loud R.O.C.K.S (TM) first before wishing to increase the odds they will grant your wish.

R = Resources

O= Opportunities

C= Connections

K= Knowledge

S= Support

Your next opportunity often comes from someone who already believes in you.

Final Thought

Career transitions take courage. They take clarity. They take community. Keep sharing your story. Keep cultivating your network. Small steps create momentum. Momentum creates opportunities.
