The Power of Storytelling in Leadership
The past 30 days have flown by quickly, but I’ve loved every moment.
I’m feeling motivated, recharged, celebrated, and valued.
A storytelling framework that I share with my coaching clients and mentees is straightforward and helps them stand out strategically. When asked, “How are you?” instead of saying “busy” or “fine,” share where you are excited to be coming from or going to. People love to hear what’s exciting or giving you joy lately. Sharing a few short stories allows them to double-click or ask about a snippet that interests them.
From speaking at McKesson for their Emerging Professionals Network, Asian, and Hispanic ERGs on “Building Authentic, Bold Confidence, and Resilience,” I realized how much I miss delivering live keynotes in-person with a production crew with lights and music too. I was thrilled to hear about the tremendous progress and career success of members during my Career Transitions Group Mentoring call, Momentum Group Mentoring Call, and Inclusive Leadership Lab Call. It was a huge honor and joy to celebrate the honorees and the great work of the North Texas Disability Chamber at their October 9th Awards luncheon, where I accepted the 2025 Cynt Marshall Catalyst for Inclusion Award (with my daughter videoing) I enjoyed the Local Profile Women in Business Summit before boarding a 7-day unplugged, no-wifi, Princess Cruise to Alaska with my extended family. Cruises truly are an ideal choice for intergenerational family getaways. I returned Sunday, highly motivated to complete my 4-day Hogan Coaching Certification today, before leaving for San Diego on September 27, where I will group coach for SHRM Linkage and co-facilitate two workshops with Beverley Wright.
✨ The Power of Storytelling in Leadership ✨
So often we focus on sharing our credentials, skills, and technical know-how. Those are important, but don’t always connect with people on a deeper level. What truly builds trust, warmth, and familiarity is your story.
We are the stories we tell. When you use storytelling, you show not only what you’ve done, but that you care and trust them with your stories. It sets the tone to create a welcoming space where they can share their stories, too. That’s what helps others see your value and feel connected to your journey.
AI can be a powerful tool to help you shape and share your story so it resonates with the right audience. It can guide you in finding the words, framing the message, and highlighting the human side of your success.
If you’d like a presentation on this topic for your team, or want to create your own growth plan to strengthen your storytelling, I’d love to support you. Reach out and let’s get started!
